What Is The Difference Between Recovery and Healing?

Did you know?

  • The steps to getting well are healing whether it’s physically, mentally or emotionally.

  • In addiction recovery the definition of recovery is the journey back to sobriety.

  • The concepts and values in the recovery model restore the humanity before it was stripped.

  • Recovery is the knowledge that step-by-step you can get better.

Did you know?

  • In order to get well one needs to heal. Getting well is the process of healing.

  • Most of the time, the process of healing takes one to a different place than you were before because of the experience you went through; this is healing.

  • Sometimes, though, one does go back to the same place one was before and does not find a new way; this is recovery.

Did you know health before?

  • If so…it is recovery.

  • If you want to go back to a time before you experience something called “symptoms”, can you call that recovery?

  • Do you want a different level of health? If so… then it is healing.

  • Is your goal to eliminate symptoms of a disease? That is recovery, but what is the disease? And what are the disease’s symptoms?

Did you know?

  • Being able to heal, in a proactive sense, involves the awareness that the body is offering you information.

  • Using the term ‘symptom’ may compete with the discovery of the healing information.

Are you looking to being restored to good health?

  • Good health does not come magically.

  • Getting to good health is a process called healing.

  • Good health is a lifestyle one needs to maintain which is the pursuit of wellness.

Are you looking for 100% restoration of health in body and mind?

  • Know that no one can be 100%. It isn’t possible.

  • But after an episode of ill health, the journey of restoration of health is the healing journey.

  • The sustainability of health is wellness that one aspires towards.

Do you want to finish the things you need to get done?

  • Poor health interferes with functioning.

  • Healing is the process of improved functioning as health improves.

  • Wellness is doing it better after you have better health.

Do you desire functionality: being able to function socially, lead a meaningful and fulfilling life?

  • In order to function one needs to heal.

  • Being able to sustain that meaningful and fulfilling level of functioning is wellness.

How can one get out of the darkness?

  • Healing gets one out of the darkness.

  • Wellness is the ability to be in the light.

Did you know?

  • Wellness is finding life’s balances.

What is a dictionary definition of 'Symptom'?

A sign or a phenomenon that arises from and accompanies a particular disease or disorder and serves as an indication of it

  • Double check: Be aware! What does the word “symptom” imply? How do you use this word?

What questions do you need to ask in order to move forward in your healing?

Now, let’s add the word ‘Wellness’.

Are 'Recovery', 'Healing' and 'Wellness' different? How so? What are the differences amongst 'Recovery', 'Healing' and 'Wellness'?

Are you looking for the process of getting back to self and pursuing your aspirations?

  • If so, getting back to something you know is recovery.

  • To be able to pursue it is wellness.

  • And the process of getting there is healing.

Are you… looking to bring yourself back to health and happiness and you knew this before? – Then it can be recovery. Otherwise, you need healing.

How will you get there?

  • The process to restore health is healing.

  • Wellness is the mindset of health, happiness and positive attitude that you will need.

What is your journey? What steps are you taking?

  • What do you need to know?

  • What do you need to have?

  • What do you need to find?

  • What do you need to ask?

  • Who will you find to listen?
